ALAC Lincolnshire has developed various learning activities that are structured around the needs of the three main groups of learners – children and adults, migrant workers, and voluntary sector project managers. In this process, it has used different methods, combining formal and informal learning.
Children and adults
• Opportunities for sharing values in the relationship between adults and children
• Strengthening the process of learning in decision-making processes of children in their relationship with adults
• Workshops on community issues and celebration events - involving young people and adults
• Activities aimed at creating a bridge between local communities and schools
Migrant workers
• Skills-based training opportunities - including the use of IT facilities and language teaching as part of ESOL courses.
• Workshops focusing on the process of learning to be citizens and to relate to others.
• Several creative techniques – for example intercultural meetings, workshops in song writing and a radio programme to be developed by Polish and Portuguese migrant workers
• Workshops for service providers working with immigrants.
Voluntary sector project managers
• Workshops on building a bridge between communities and the statutory sector and enabling people to know their rights and to find their voice.
• Workshops facilitating self-reflective practice of community groups, network organisations and project managers as well as joint learning through exchanging good practices
• Community-based activities with carers and users of the National Health Service Mental Health Forum.
